About Laurel Morales’ Writing

Prior to entering the podcast world Laurel was a public radio reporter for 20 years. In her work for NPR and the Fronteras Desk she’s best known for untangling complicated issues, finding compelling voices and coming up with unique ways to tell their stories.

She has won many awards for her work including a national Edward R. Murrow award for her coverage of Arizona's deadliest wildfire and an International Women’s Podcast Award.

She's been an editor and collaborated on several projects including the multi-award winning "Tracing the Migrant Journey" series. She can be heard on NPR, the Fronteras Desk, Code Switch, Here & Now, Science Friday, Marketplace and National Native News.

In 2018 she was a winner of the Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase. She’s had her poetry published in the anthology “Song of Ourself: Voices in Unison” and she’s currently revising her debut novel.

She’s an active member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association.

In addition she’s taught journalism and podcasting courses at Northern Arizona University and Coconino Center for the Arts.
